Islamabad, Pakistan · Building across disciplines

I make things
work — and mean
something.

I'm Usman Zubair: mechanical engineer turned product builder, designer, photographer, filmmaker, traveler and volunteer. The common thread is curiosity — followed all the way to a finished thing.

I've never been very good at being just one thing.

A camera taught me to notice. Engineering taught me to test. Travel taught me to adapt. Code gave me the leverage to turn all three into products people use.

I began with machines, CAD/CAM and finite-element thinking. I moved through graphic design, film and photography, then into websites and full-stack software. Today I build with Rust, Go, React, Svelte, PostgreSQL and AI as a daily collaborator — without losing the eye, the empathy or the hands-on instinct that came first.

01

Build

Production software, from a first conversation to the database, interface and deployment.

02

Design

Interfaces, brands and visual systems shaped by a decade behind the camera.

03

Engineer

Mechanical training, CAD/CAM and FEA thinking: constraints first, details matter.

04

Witness

Stories and images that preserve people, place, culture and work that matters.

Not concepts.
Working systems.

Three businesses I scoped, designed, engineered, shipped and still run. Each started with a real frustration; each now serves real people.

Merchora product interface

Commerce / live

Merchora

A multi-tenant e-commerce platform made for Pakistan and the markets the big platforms overlook. Merchants get a real storefront; I built everything behind it.

Baam Crest product interface

Hospitality / live

Baam Crest

Hotel software for places where the internet gives up. Rooms, restaurant and sales keep working offline, then find their way back to the cloud.

The Gallery Pro product interface

Photography / live

The Gallery Pro

A complete working home for photographers: client galleries, album proofing, CRM, billing and a licensed desktop album designer.

Every chapter
left me a tool.

2010–14

Mechanical engineering

B.Sc. (Hons), BZU. CAD/CAM, FEA, systems and the discipline of making ideas survive physics.

2015–18

Images that move

Photography, film, Adobe Creative Suite and 3D. Finalist at Nikon Film Festival Pakistan and the 60-Second International Film Festival.

2018–now

Design into code

Twenty-plus sites for hospitals, schools, resorts, nonprofits and stores — often translating fuzzy needs for non-technical people.

2024–now

AI-native product building

Three end-to-end platforms, built with AI in the daily loop across architecture, implementation, review and debugging.

The road is
part of the work.

I've traveled through Nepal, Egypt, Iran, the UAE and Saudi Arabia; trekked into the mountains; and crossed Pakistan by motorcycle with a camera close by. I collect fewer landmarks than ways of seeing.

Skill matters most when it serves someone.

At Jabir Bin Hayyan Trust, I travel to underserved communities to document people and programmes with dignity — and I built the organisation's website too.

Social impact is not a separate portfolio category for me. It is present in the schools, hospital and nonprofit work I take on; in software made for overlooked markets; and in the way I listen before I build.
